A Floating Arctic City Fueled By Eating Icebergs

As soon as polar glaciers are sent into the ocean more and more icebergs, it is not surprising that people are trying to imagine a future in which climate change have become a part of our lives. Cities that are floating in the Arctic, feeding icebergs are one of those pictures of the future.

This live-ship machine, called Arctic Harvester Development of two French architecture students. Arctic Harvester uses large reserves of fresh water, enclosed in a iceberg, capturing them in its circular shape. The ship is covered with solar panels to use maximum power, which it can provide a long polar summer. The developers believe that these two functions enough to support the hydroponic gardens which will feed 800 command ship. During the darker winter months, according to their idea, Arctic Harvester will draw energy from the on board osmotic systems, mixing salt and fresh water.

Arctic Harvester has no screws. The vessel is designed so that drift with the currents that carry icebergs circulating in the circular flow of ocean between Greenland and the coast of Labrador for two years before heading south along the east coast of the US," says team member Merimee shepherds.

Now this idea is still quite far from complete implementation. The developers are just beginning to look for investors in order to create the first generation prototype of its floating cities. But even if they never go to the ocean, they still are a great concept that fits well with the conditions of the Arctic.
